Stop the Partisan Gerrymandering in Missouri

Missouri is considering a blatantly partisan attempt at gerrymandering its congressional districts. States typically draw their congressional district maps once every decade after a US Census. Instead, Republican-led states, including Missouri, may redistrict now, prompted by Donald Trump’s desire to maintain Republican control of the House of Representatives after the 2026 midterm elections. Missouri Republicans will most likely target at least one Kansas City Democratic district.

Unfair maps disenfranchise voters and lead to long-lasting political problems. Drawing the districts so that they strongly favor one party leads to severe polarization, legislative gridlock, and a weaker Congress. Congress can act by banning mid-decade redistricting (a move with some bipartisan support) and mandating independent, non-partisan redistricting commissions in every state (historically supported by Democrats). However, no legislative action to stop partisan gerrymandering is likely before the 2026 midterms, making advocacy at the state level critical.

Spurred on by Trump’s demands, these mid-decade redistricting attempts are cheapening the political power of Missourians and all Americans. Demand that your state senators and representatives oppose any redistricting bills.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

I’m calling to ask that [REP/SEN NAME] oppose any attempt to redraw Missouri’s congressional district maps before the 2026 midterm election. This blatantly partisan redistricting process would set a dangerous political precedent and rob voters of their rights. Voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
