Stop the Partisan Gerrymandering in Ohio

Ohio Republicans are beginning a blatantly partisan attempt at further gerrymandering its congressional districts. Because Ohio’s 2021 congressional map failed to attain a state constitution-mandated level of bipartisan support, the map will expire in 2025 and a new map must be drawn by the legislature. The current 2021 Ohio map is already unconstitutionally biased, but Republicans will seek to worsen its partisan lean, at Donald Trump’s request, to maintain Republican control of the House of Representatives after the 2026 elections.

Unfair maps disenfranchise voters and lead to long-lasting political problems. Drawing the districts so that they strongly favor one party leads to severe polarization, legislative gridlock, and a weaker Congress. Congress can act by banning mid-decade redistricting (a move with some bipartisan support) and mandating independent, non-partisan redistricting commissions in every state (historically supported by Democrats). However, no legislative action to stop partisan gerrymandering is likely before the 2026 midterms, making advocacy at the state level critical.

Spurred on by Trump’s demands, these gerrymandering attempts are cheapening the political power of Ohioans and all Americans. Demand that your state senators and representatives fight for fair maps.

I’m calling to ask that [REP/SEN NAME] fight for a fair congressional district map and stop the practice of blatantly partisan gerrymandering. Voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.
