Utah lawmakers are rushing through legislation that would gut Proposition 4’s anti-gerrymandering protections and only using one statistical test. After courts said “follow Prop 4,” their first move is to change the rules instead of complying.
Proposition 4 requires “measures” (plural) of partisan symmetry using “best available methods.” This bill cherry-picks the one test that makes Utah’s 4-0 Republican gerrymander appear mathematically “fair.” You don’t get to change the test after you’ve already failed it.

Script: Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling to urge you/[REP/SEN NAME] to oppose Senator Brammer’s redistricting standards bill. The court said “follow Prop 4” and instead of complying, lawmakers are changing the rules. That’s not following the law, that’s defying it.
Prop 4 requires multiple fairness tests, but they’re cherry-picking the one test that makes their gerrymandered maps look legal. Use the comprehensive fairness standards voters approved, not just the one test that gives you the answer you want.
Please oppose this bill.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
