Oppose Jan 6 Defender Ed Martin as US District Attorney
Trump has nominated conservative activist and 2020 election denier Ed Martin to be the U.S. Attorney for D.C., a role that is “among the most powerful federal prosecutor positions in the country.” Martin is currently the interim Attorney for D.C. despite having no prior prosecutorial experience. He is not expected to have a confirmation hearing before the Senate votes on his appointment.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and former federal prosecutors are concerned about Martin’s partisan actions as interim attorney. Martin defended January 6th rioters in court and has since fired and demoted several federal prosecutors and senior lawyers involved in the January 6th cases.
