Trump has nominated conservative activist and 2020 election denier Ed Martin to be the U.S. Attorney for D.C., a role that is “among the most powerful federal prosecutor positions in the country.” Martin is currently the interim Attorney for D.C. despite having no prior prosecutorial experience. He is not expected to have a confirmation hearing before the Senate votes on his appointment.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and former federal prosecutors are concerned about Martin’s partisan actions as interim attorney. Martin defended January 6th rioters in court and has since fired and demoted several federal prosecutors and senior lawyers involved in the January 6th cases. Martin is also a staunch supporter of DOGE and has used his position as interim attorney to investigate Trump’s political critics and medical journals that oppose Trump’s misinformation.
Martin’s confirmation would further the Trump administration’s elimination of legal checks and balances. His attempts to persecute and silence political opponents would prove dangerous to anyone who challenges the work of the Trump administration. It is critical that the Senate reject Martin’s nomination and his attempts to bring partisan politics into the American justice system.
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to oppose the nomination of Ed Martin as the U.S. Attorney for D.C. His lack of qualifications and partisan behavior defending the January 6th insurrection puts the integrity of the American justice system at risk.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
