Block Budget Increase for ICE and Mass Deportation

Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan wants to add billions more to the budget for ICE deportations, and Republican lawmakers are prepared to give it to him. House and Senate Republicans are working on a budget reconciliation bill that proposes between $90 and $175 billion in spending increases over the next decade, providing, essentially, a blank check for the Trump administration to move forward with mass deportations.

This funding influx would allow ICE to:

• Expand the use of the wartime authority known as the Alien Enemies Act to unlawfully send immigrants to other countries without notice or due process.
• Build a massive immigration jail on Guantanamo Bay.
• Add thousands of officers and enlist police and sheriff’s deputies across the country to help arrest and jail more immigrants.
• Funnel billions to private contractors to identify targets, jail them in for-profit detention centers, and fast-track their deportations.

Under the direction of Trump, ICE is already unlawfully sending migrants to El Salvador without notice or due process. In fact, The United States has paid the government of El Salvador $15 million to jail immigrants in their infamous torture prison. With a budget expansion, this inhumane and unconstitutional treatment will get worse.

A budget reconciliation bill only requires a simple majority in both the House and Senate to pass. Demand your representatives vote against any budget plan that increases ICE funding to ensure due process for every single person living in the United States.
