Continue Vital Support & Funding for Addiction Recovery Services

The current administration has proposed massive cuts to the discretionary funding that supports much of our country’s mental health and addiction recovery services. More troubling, these cuts reflect the administration’s announcement in March that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and four other agencies would be folded into a new Administration for a Healthy America (AHA).

Key mental health and substance use programs that have been proposed for elimination include:

  • Mental Health Awareness Training
  • Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration
  • Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking
  • Peer Support Services Technical Assistance Center
  • Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Centers
  • Building Communities of Recovery

Support for recovery isn’t optional. It’s essential to public health and safety. The [Senate Appropriations Committee affirmed this when they voted for a Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies bill that protects and increases recovery funding for FY26. But as the appropriations process moves forward, nothing is guaranteed.

We’re only just beginning to see overdose rates decline; they have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels when our nation was in the grips of an opioid epidemic. Tell your representative now is not the time to pull back - we must keep pushing forward.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to preserve the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and maintain its funding for fiscal year 2026. Communities across the country cannot risk losing what little support they have for vital prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
