During a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump gleefully called for the US to “take over” the Gaza Strip and forcibly relocate the nearly two million Palestinians who are only just now able to return to their homes there after months of attacks on their community. He also expressed openness to deploying US troops to “clear” the land, rebuild it into “the Riviera of the Middle East,” and take a “long-term [US] ownership” of the area.
These proposed actions both amount to an illegal American occupation of Gaza and threaten to derail ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas and thus prevent the release of remaining hostages. It is clear that Trump’s primary interest (beyond hateful racism) is self-serving real estate ventures; he and his son-in-law Jared Kushner have both made comments on the value of Gaza’s “waterfront property” and the necessity to displace civilians.
US allies have expressed disapproval of Trump’s new plan and reiterated the necessity for a two-state solution. It is vital that our elected government leaders also fully condemn the displacement of the Palestinian people and military occupation of their land. Congress must push back against Trump’s continued interest in unlawful global invasions.
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling to ask that [REP/SEN NAME] vocally oppose Trump’s call for the US to take over the Gaza Strip and force millions of Palestinians from their homeland. This would be a gross infringement of the rights of the Palestinian people, a threat to ongoing ceasefire and hostage release negotiations, and an outright war crime.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
