Urge State Leaders to Reject Trump's Attack on Voting Rights

Trump has issued a new executive order that would require voters to prove their US citizenship to register to vote. Similar to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act currently pending before Congress, Trump’s EO would require US citizens to produce documentation of citizenship, like a passport, to register to vote; an estimated 9% of US citizens of voting age lack this documentation. The order also threatens to withhold federal funding from any states who count mail-in ballots received after Election Day and grants federal agencies, including DOGE, access to state voter rolls to check them for “consistency with Federal requirements.”

Despite Trump and his cronies’ repeated claims to the contrary, voter fraud is vanishingly rare in the United States. Trump’s authoritarian attacks on democracy and voting rights are the real threat to our democracy and cannot go unchallenged. His executive order unlawfully strips states of their responsibility for regulating and administering federal elections and threatens millions of Americans’ constitutional right to vote.

State leaders must reject this executive overreach and power grab of state-run elections and on Americans’ voting rights.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

I’m calling to demand that [REP/SEN NAME] defend our state’s current election laws against Trump’s unlawful Executive Order that aims to change them and disenfranchise millions of Americans. States have constitutional authority over administering elections, not the federal government.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
