Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has called a special session of the state legislature, set to begin on June 17, with the express stated purpose of redrawing the state’s electoral maps in the wake of the Supreme Court’s gutting of the Voting Rights Act. Governor Kemp’s actions follow those of other Republican-led states such as Florida, whose governor Ron DeSantis seized the opportunity within days of the SCOTUS decision to further gerrymander the state’s already partisan maps. These efforts collectively constitute a coordinated attack on Black representation across the Southeast.
The effort to further gerrymander southern states is part of a broader strategy by conservatives and the Trump administration to suppress voters in an attempt to cling to power. In 2021 in Georgia, Governor Kemp signed S.B. 202 into law, which made it a crime to give water to individuals waiting in line to vote. In the most recent legislative session, conservatives hijacked a bill pertaining to food trucks to force the passage of H.B. 369, which changes the way certain races, such as District Attorney, are conducted only in the five metro-Atlanta counties, which are majority Black and controlled by Democrats.
The time has come to take a stand. Call the Governor and your representatives now and demand that they reject unfair maps that further cement the systemic racism that already plagues Georgia.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to oppose redistricting in the June 17 special session. Redrawing maps to further diminish the representation of Black people is racist, partisan, and antidemocratic. It harms the rights of everyone in the state and moves our country in the wrong direction.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
