Oppose Harmful Changes to Atlanta Elections (UPDATED 4/6)

Updates

April 6, 2026: H.B. 369 has passed both chambers of the Georgia Legislature. Governor Kemp has until May 12th to either sign this legislation into law or veto the bill. Demand Governor Kemp veto this attempt at voter suppression in Atlanta.

The proposed bill H.B. 369 would change the format of elections only in metro-Atlanta counties from partisan to non-partisan. This would strip candidates’ party affiliation from the ballot and confuse voters. The changes would affect district attorneys, solicitors general, county commissioners, court clerks and tax commissioners. This bill clearly violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution because it specifically targets five counties controlled by Democrats: Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, and Clayton.

This House-passed bill was originally about food trucks, but the text of the bill was gutted and replaced with language targeting county-wide elections in just 5 of Georgia’s 159 counties. This proposed change to the way elections are conducted is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to attack elections conducted in the Atlanta area.

Call your representatives and oppose this harmful and likely unconstitutional proposal.
