Protect Massachusetts Voters from Faithless Presidential Electors

Threats of violence against public officials have increased substantially in recent years, along with a rise in systematic abuse of federal powers to try to coerce law-abiding Americans across all sectors of society. If another presidential candidate refuses to admit defeat, there is a serious risk that presidential electors could also be subjected to similar pressures, in an attempt to coerce them into casting faithless electoral vote ballots that contradict our state’s certified election results. Such actions could potentially overturn an entire presidential election.

A majority of states already have laws in place to defend against this risk, automatically replacing any faithless electors, so the will of the people is guaranteed to be upheld. Massachusetts is considering legislation, H.5086, that would adopt these best practices. Demand your state lawmakers work to pass this important legislation before the end of the 2026 session in July.
