No Immunity for Big Oil

Oil and gas lobbyists are urging Congress to give fossil fuel companies total legal immunity from any laws or lawsuits that could hold them accountable for their role in the climate crisis.

More than one in four Americans live in a community that is fighting in court to make Big Oil companies pay for lying about how their products fuel climate change. At least a dozen states have passed or proposed climate “superfund” laws to protect taxpayers from the growing cost of climate damages by making polluters pay. The largest oil and gas lobbying group announced that shutting down these pathways to accountability is one of their top 2026 priorities, and Republican attorneys general have proposed a “liability shield” for fossil fuel companies based on the 2005 law protecting gun manufacturers from lawsuits.

Tell your Members of Congress to oppose the fossil fuel industry’s effort to strip communities of their right to take corporations to court and to make clear that Big Oil should not be above the law.
