In 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was convicted on federal child sex trafficking charges after years of evading the law. Along with his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein groomed, raped, and trafficked children while maintaining close relationships with wealthy and politically connected individuals, including Donald Trump. Epstein died in jail while awaiting trial, but public questions about his crimes, associates, and enablers have persisted.
Leading up to the 2024 presidential election, Trump repeatedly promised to release the Epstein files if elected, but he has failed to follow through. Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has repeatedly acted to downplay and block the release of files related to the Epstein case, despite the November 2025 passage of the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act. When the DOJ did eventually release a subset of files in March of 2026, House Republicans declined to depose Trump despite these documents’ explicit allegations against him.
Recent reporting by The New York Times has raised further alarming questions about the administration’s handling of the Epstein files. According to senior officials, the White House held multiple panicked Situation Room meetings about Trump’s extensive mentions in Epstein files, while top aides debated whether additional records should be released. The revelations have renewed congressional efforts to obtain testimony from administration officials, including J.D. Vance, and investigate how political considerations influenced the Epstein document release process.
Survivors deserve the truth, and the public deserves a full accounting of who participated in, enabled, or helped conceal Epstein’s heinous trafficking operation. Congress must hold public hearings, demand the complete release of all records required by law, and ensure that no perpetrator, accomplice, or politically connected figure is shielded from accountability.
