Stop the Politicization of the DOJ

Under the leadership of Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and deputies Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, the Department of Justice has worked less to seek justice on behalf of the American people and more to protect the personal interests of Trump and his allies and shield them from accountability and prosecution.

• The DOJ has opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, a continuation of their ongoing threat campaign to force the Fed to adhere to Trump’s personal preference on interest rates.

• The DOJ has dropped charges against former NYC mayor Eric Adams and Trump’s co-defendants in the classified documents criminal case.

• Bondi has fired the director of the Department of Ethics Office, at least three Jan. 6 prosecutors, and 20 DOJ prosecutors who assisted Special Counsel Jack Smith’s criminal investigation of Trump.

• The DOJ has[opened up criminal investigations into Trump’s perceived political rivals, such as former CIA director John Brennan and the Attorney General of New York Letitia James.

• Bondi, Blanche, and Bove have fired and discredited a whistleblower who provided information about the officials encouraging DOJ lawyers to defy court orders.

• The FBI has raided the home of John Bolton, Trump’s former national security advisor turned outspoken critic.

• The DOJ has launched an investigation into Lisa Cook, a Federal Reserve Governor Trump has been attempting to oust.

• The DOJ has closed a bribery investigation into Trump’s border czar Tom Homan, who accepted a bag of cash from undercover FBI agents.

• The DOJ has forced out top career prosecutor Erik Siebert and attempted to replace him with Trump’s personal attorney Lindsey Halligan as the U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. Halligan used her new role to indict former FBI director James Comey. Comey’s indictment was quickly dismissed by a federal judge, who ruled Halligan’s appointment invalid.

The purpose of the DOJ is to ensure the safety and security of Americans by upholding the law and holding to account those who break it. Instead, the Trump administration’s DOJ has weaponized the agency to seek revenge on political enemies and protect themselves and their allies. Congress must hold these department officials accountable and demand they serve the American people instead of protecting the wealthy from legitimate prosecution.
