Protect HIV Prevention, Care, Housing, and Research

The Trump administration has proposed billions of dollars in cuts to programs that are critical to saving lives and ending the costly HIV/AIDS Epidemic.

  • Cuts $520 million from HIV, hepatitis, STI and TB prevention funding and would move programs to an untested new agency

  • Chops $252.8 million in Ryan White Program and Minority AIDS Initiative funds that directly impacts the ability of people living with HIV to access, and caregivers to provide, lifesaving evidence-based HIV treatment, dental, education and training programs

  • Slashes over $21 billion in National Institutes of Health research funds, including up to $1.4 billion in HIV funds

  • Eliminates the Housing Opportunities for People with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) program

With advancements in long-acting HIV prevention and treatment, we could end the HIV epidemic in the United States within our lifetimes, but not without these crucial federal HIV programs.

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted against these drastic cuts in favor of maintaining or increasing the current funding levels for federal HIV programs, while the House Appropriations Committee also kept funding for housing through the HOPWA program. However, Congress may still choose to accept the Trump administration’s draconian budget cuts as the appropriations process moves forward; Congress must pass the FY 2026 federal budget by September 30th. Urge your members of Congress to reject any devastating cuts and fully fund life-saving and cost-reducing HIV programs.

I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to fully fund HIV programs to ensure that people living with or vulnerable to HIV are able to access treatment, prevention, housing, and research needed to live longer healthier lives.
