Resist the Escalation of ICE Raids and Detentions

With the passage of H.R. 1, Republicans in the House and Senate have handed Donald Trump and notorious xenophobe Stephen Miller $171 billion to supercharge their mass deportation operations, including $45 billion for detention centers and $30 billion for new ICE officers and transportation. ICE’s funding now exceeds the total immigration enforcement budgets of the Obama, Biden, and first Trump administrations combined. Many budget reconciliation provisions do not go into effect until 2026 or later, but ICE’s funding increase is immediate. This means:

Despite this unprecedented level of funding for ICE, the agency relies on local law enforcement for assistance. The bill includes $14 billion for local law enforcement departments to incentivize such partnerships. Both Congress and state governments must oppose the Trump administration’s push towards an authoritarian police state and protect its communities from this terrifying assault.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

[IF CALLING GOVERNOR]: I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to oppose the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants and refuse to assist with any federal ICE raids and detentions. ICE raids are targeting essential workers, detaining innocent people without cause or due process, and terrorizing our communities. [REP/SEN NAME] must protect us from this push towards an authoritarian police state.

[IF CALLING HOUSE/SENATE]: I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to oppose the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants and conduct public oversight investigations into the conduct of ICE agents and conditions of detention facilities. ICE raids are terrorizing communities across the country, violating due process rights, and subjecting innocent people to extremely inhumane treatment. I expect [REP/SEN NAME] to hold this administration accountable for their authoritarian tactics.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
