Stop the Deployment of US Military to Police Americans

After deploying National Guard troops to assist with federal deportation operations in Los Angeles and to crack down on a nonexistent crime wave in Washington D.C., the Trump administration is now expanding their use of the US military to conduct domestic law enforcement. On August 25th, Trump signed an executive order to create specialized units within the National Guard that would be specifically “trained and equipped to deal with public order issues” and assist local, state, and federal law enforcement “in quelling civil disturbances”. The Trump administration is now planning to expand troop deployments across 19 states and has repeatedly threatened a full military occupation of Chicago.

The Trump administration is manufacturing threats of an imaginary crime wave to justify their use of the US military for domestic law enforcement. The deployment of troops to harass and terrorize communities is a horrendous and massively expensive abuse of power that endangers the liberty and rights of all US residents, particularly immigrants, unhoused people, and people of color. All elected officials must sound the alarm about Trump’s unhinged weaponization of the US military against the American public.
