Paramount and Oracle already own a vast number of media companies including major movie and television studios, CNN, CBS, HBO, TBS, TNT, Food Network, HGTV, and TikTok. Paramount is now poised to acquire Warner Bros Discovery (WBD)after Netflix backed away from its original deal. This deal requires approval from the Department of Justice.
This corporate consolidation will not only cause thousands of job losses and upheaval within the entertainment industry, but also put news organizations like CNN under the control of fervent Trump allies. David Ellison’s previous acquisition of CBS News in 2025 led to the news organization’s adoption of a right-leaning slant favorable to the Trump administration.
