July 10, 2025: Hegseth failed to inform the Trump administration of his unilateral decision to pause weapons delivery to Ukraine, citing low weapon stockpiles. This decision resulted in a frenzy in the White House before Trump ultimately reversed the pause. Hegseth continues to prove he is not qualified to lead the Department of Defense and should immediately resign from his position.
April 20, 2025: Hegseth shared similar sensitive military attack plans in another Signal chat with a dozen people in his personal circle, including his wife and lawyer, who have no clearance or need to receive this kind of information.
March 26, 2025: The Atlantic has now released the text messages from the Signal chat, proving that classified attack plans were indeed shared openly. Trump officials had all denied this, some while under oath in front of Congress. A lawsuit has also been filed against Trump officials for potentially breaking record-keeping laws.
On March 24, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic reported being accidentally included in a group chat, by National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, where Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared highly sensitive US military strike plans in Yemen two hours before it occurred. These discussions involved several top US officials including JD Vance and Marco Rubio, and happened on Signal, a popular chat app whose use for sharing classified information about military actions was referred to by multiple former senior intelligence officers as a “shocking risk to national security” and that such a breach would normally prompt an immediate investigation. Multiple members of the House Armed Services Committee are already calling for such an investigation and for the resignation or firing of those responsible.
Defense Department officials expressed shock at their use of the commercial chat app Signal to discuss sensitive information, as such behavior could violate the Espionage Act. A national security advisor should know better than to set up an unsecure and unlawful line of communication. The responsibility for this extraordinary breach of national security also falls on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, whose lack of experience for this role makes him not only deeply unqualified, but a danger to our national security, as well as to the lives of those serving in our armed forces.
Demand your representatives call for the immediate resignation of Defense Secretary Hegseth.
Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].
I’m calling today because I’m appalled at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s repeated disregard for defense and national security protocols. His failure to notify appropriate authorities about pausing Ukrainian weapons aid demonstrates an undermining of the chain of command and falsely elevates his sense of authority.
I ask that [REP/SEN NAME] demand the immediate resignation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and move to impeach him if he fails to resign.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
