Protect America’s National Parks

National parks are one of America’s greatest gifts to the public. Starting with the creation of Yellowstone National Park in 1872, the park system expanded in the early 20th century, culminating with the 1916 creation of the National Park Service (NPS). Today, 433 national park sites cover more than 85 million acres in all 50 states, D.C., and US territories.

However, these prized public lands are now under threat from an administration and Congress fixated on slashing federal budgets. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s actions consistently endanger both the immediate and long-term wellbeing of our national parks. Burgum has been diverting an ever-shrinking park budget and staff to public-facing components like clean restrooms and visitor centers at the expense of park safety and environmental protections. This façade management massively endangers parks, park rangers, and the NPS itself.

Not content with major NPS budget cuts in the recently-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, House Republicans are proposing further NPS cuts in their 2026 appropriations bill. These reductions would slash another $176 million, more than 6%, from the NPS operating budget.

Our National Parks belong to all of us and must be funded at levels to protect and preserve the lands for future generations. Demand Congress restore funding to the NPS and end their attacks on our cherished national parks.

Hi, my name is NAME and I’m a constituent from [CITY,ZIP].

I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] to restore the funding for our national parks and the National Park Service. Even after the drastic budget cuts in H.R. 1, House appropriators are now trying to cut even more money from our beloved national parks. Congress must provide the needed funding to protect and preserve our national parks for future generations.

[OPTIONAL: give reasons why the national parks are important to you]

Thank you for your time and consideration.
