Protect Funding for Public Education

Congress has until September 30th to pass a budget bill for fiscal year (FY) 2026 and decide whether they will protect children across the country by funding their public schools.

Trump initially requested $12 billion in cuts to public schools, and the House Appropriations Committee is in support. If approved, this budget will slash Title I funds for low-income schools by nearly 30%, eliminate support for English Learners, zero out college access programs, community schools and more. Thankfully, the Senate Appropriations Committee fully rejected Trump’s cuts and is instead proposing $50 million increases to both Title I and IDEA, along with an additional $5 million for rural schools.

Both the full House and Senate have yet to vote on their FY2026 budget bills. If Trump and the House get their way, these cuts would be devastating to students and communities – killing after school and summer programs, arts and technology classes, teacher recruitment and training, emergency preparedness, mental health services, and more. The result? Overcrowded classrooms and fewer resources for every child.

Tell your representatives in Congress: NO cuts. Protect public schools.
