Oppose Privatization of the Tennessee Valley Authority

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was created by President Roosevelt in the 1930s for rural development and to bring a Public Power Model to the impoverished Tennessee Valley. The TVA has since powered communities for over 90 years, serving 10 million people across seven states with affordable, reliable, public power while bringing rural development, flood control, land stewardship, industrial growth, and good-paying jobs to the Valley. Today, all of this is accomplished with no federal appropriations.

Right now, the TVA is under threat. Since March, the Trump Administration has fired 3 board members, leaving only 3 of 9 members in place. Five new nominees are awaiting confirmation in the U.S. Senate, none with meaningful energy experience and questionable motives regarding privatization. Privatization of the TVA would mean higher rates, fewer jobs, and Wall Street profits at the expense of the people of the Valley.

The TVA has bipartisan support because it works. It operates without federal tax dollars, keeps energy affordable, and prioritizes people over profits. Tell your Senators to oppose any TVA Board nominees who are in favor of dismantling or privatizing the TVA.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

I’m calling to urge [SEN NAME] to support the Public Power Model and oppose any nominee who would consider privatizing or dismantling the Tennessee Valley Authority. The TVA’s self-sufficient Public Power Model creates real opportunities and energy savings for the residents of the Valley that cannot be found elsewhere.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
