Stop Russian Diesel Deal and Stand With Ukraine

Trump announced on social media that he has struck a deal with Putin for Russia to supply more than 4 million tons of diesel to the global market. Within minutes of the announcement, the Treasury Department issued a waiver easing sanctions on Russian diesel through April 7, 2027, with Russia responding by partially lifting its own diesel export ban.

Experts say Trump’s deal is unlikely to bring prices down much, and it risks giving the Kremlin the revenue that sanctions were meant to cut off. The deal also violates the law as Congress explicitly banned Russian energy imports in 2022 to prevent the United States from financing their war against Ukraine. More recently, Congress passed legislation directing Trump to impose substantial tariffs on the top importers of Russian oil or natural gas. A bipartisan group of six senators has called on the administration to reverse course since Trump did not consult Congress or give any explanation for the decision, as the law would require.

Trump has repeatedly blamed Ukraine for the high cost of fuel, pressing President Zelenskyy to stop strikes on Russian refineries, even though the U.S.-led war in Iran is responsible for driving up world energy prices. Trump then declared an “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine, though Zelenskyy said the announcement was news to him. Hours later, Russia struck a power plant in Kharkiv, and Zelenskyy’s office confirmed that the attack came after Trump’s ceasefire post.

Call your members of Congress and tell them to oppose Trump’s Russian diesel deal, hold this administration to the law, and continue standing with Ukraine.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

I’m calling to ask that [REP/SEN NAME] oppose the Trump administration’s deal to import Russian diesel and to demand they follow the law banning Russian energy imports. The U.S. should not be funding Putin’s war while Russia continues to kill Ukrainian civilians.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
