November 4, 2026: Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) filed articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth in September, but Republican leadership canceled the vote and left early for recess, delaying any action until after the midterms. A vote on Hegseth is still pending and Massie has stated his intention to push for it when the House returns from its fall recess.

After several high-profile scandals and abuses of power in 2025, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is continuing to put the security of the US and other nations at risk in 2026. This former Fox News host’s lack of qualifications has led Hegseth to mishandle several sensitive situations, including compromising national security when classified military information was released during “Signalgate”. Since his rebranding as the “Secretary of War,” Hegseth has taken unprecedented actions against the US military and other countries alike, with some of his orders being investigated as war crimes under domestic and international law.

• Hegseth has become “the face of Donald Trump’s war in Iran,” commanding the military to cause “death and destruction from the sky all day long” and making light of the deaths of US soldiers in Kuwait.

• He enthusiastically announced that first U.S. military firing squad execution in over 60 years would be livestreamed for the public, a particularly depraved decision.

• He has tried to influence the ideology of the Department of Defense and its role in the Iran war, attempting to radicalize troops to support his genocidal Christian Nationalist beliefs. The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has received over 200 complaints across more than 40 units about military officials using “end-times Christian rhetoric to justify war”.

• He gutted Pentagon oversight offices, stalling essential independent investigations by watchdog agencies into the department’s targeting practices and procedures.

• He gave explicit orders to kill any survivors of an illegal strike against a Venezuelan boat, which he claimed—without providing any proof—was piloted by drug traffickers.

• He threatened journalists who reported information that wasn’t pre-approved by the Pentagon.

• At an unprecedented and high-risk gathering of military officials, Hegseth gave a wildly political speech and pronounced a litany of changes to the department, including fewer consequences for those who engage in sexual misconduct or war crimes.

• He eliminated the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, a decades-old advisory group that provides support and recommendations for women in the military, claiming that it advances “a divisive feminist agenda that hurts combat readiness.”
